The Zeitgeist Experiments: A Music Series Curated by Dirty Knobs is a monthly live music show dedicated to, as the title would suggest, exploring and advancing musical experimentation. Featuring both prominent veterans and relative newcomers to the scene, the goal of the event is to present a wide range of drone, ambient, improv, electro, outsider and leftfield sounds to an audience unafraid of something new. The event is curated by Zac Bentz aka Dirty Knobs, a lifetime Duluth resident whose own music has been heard and talked about around the world.

Listen/purchase: Live at Drone Not Drones 2 8 14 by Dirty Knobs

Everything by Zac Bentz (ASCAP)
©2013 Xero Music

Track 1 is a recording of Dirty Knobs live from the DRONE NOT DRONES 28 hour live show at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 8th, 2014.

It was recorded by a robot directly from an on-stage mixer, so some of the sound may be distorted. Blame the robot.

Drone Not Drones took place over three days, Feb 7-9th, 2014. 50 acts came together to create an unbroken 28 hours of sound. Thanks to all involved who helped make this event happen.

[I made this] Album art for The Surfactants’ album Our Dead Bodies and its two singles.

My wife and I both took turns tying each other up and getting crammed into the steamer trunk while the other took the photo. It was..fun? Design by us both as well.

You can listen to the entire album through the player above and find much more music here. Of all the music I’ve had a hand in making over the past 20 years, this album is the one I’m most proud of. It was a ton of work, but also a ton of fun.
